Catalog Files and Save Features
Catalog Files
- What is a catalog?
A catalog looks like a directory of reports. The catalog
file contains object definitions that are used by reports in the catalog. A catalog
file and the reports which are based on it must be located in the same directory
or the reports cannot run. When you migrate a report to a different directory using
the Save As function, JReport automatically creates a copy of the catalog
file for the new directory.
- Selecting a catalog
In the Catalog field you will notice a path with a file named with a
.cat extension. This is the catalog file. You can select a catalog by
typing the path of the catalog file or by using the Browse button to find
the path.
- New Catalog
You can create a new catalog file by clicking File/New Catalog.
The window will ask you to name the catalog file (do not forget to add the extension
*.cat) and the location of the file. Once you have created a new catalog file, you
must establish a new connection. Click here to
learn how to establish a new connection for your new catalog.
- Open Catalog
This will open catalog files (*.cat).
- Save Catalog
This will save the catalog file with the same name in
the same directory.
- Save Catalog As
This will allow you to save the catalog file with a
different name in another directory.
