Catalog Browser - Connection

What is the Connection?
In this section, a Connection is a listing of all the database files which are accessible through JDBC or ODBC (see Lesson1 for more details).  Double click the database file or click on the + icon to reveal the Tables and Views each database owns.  Double click on the Table or click on the + icon to reveal the fields.  The user may individually select or place all the fields into the Working Set menu by highlighting a specific section and clicking on the arrow buttons.

Unlike the Connection in the Data tab, you cannot place these fields into the Working Set or into the report.  The Connection in the Catalog Browser only allows you to view what fields and tables are in the database file.

To place more fields and tables into the Working Set, click File and select Open Working Set to edit the Working Set.

How to create a new connection?
To create a new connection in a report, select Connection in the Catalog Browser under the Data tab.  Click on the
help129.gif (990 bytes) icon in the Catalog Browser toolbar.  The following window will pop up:

By default, the Use JDBC-ODBC Bridge box is checked.  In the ODBC Data Source, type in the name you placed in the Data Source Name (see Lesson 1 for more details).  If you have a User ID and a Password for accessing your network, please type that in as well.

If you use a JDBC Driver, please check that box and type the name of the driver in the space provided.
