Select Package
Use this page to select the type of ZENworks® policy package you want to create.
The Policy Packages list (left pane) displays the package types you can create. When you select a package, the Policies list (right pane) displays the policies that are included in the package. The packages and their polices are described in the following sections.
Container Package
A Container Package includes policies that relate to Novell®
eDirectoryTM containers. Currently, a Container Package
includes the Search policy, which is used by Server Management, Desktop Management,
and Handheld Management. For Handheld Management, a Container Package also includes
the Handheld Application Search policy.
- Search (Desktop Management, Handheld Management, and Server Management):
Sets the searching process that Desktop Management and Handheld Management
follows in enforcing policies.
Because most policies in Server Management are distributed rather than associated
for enforcement and a Distributor does not receive Distributions, the Search
policy is used in Server Management to enable the Distributor Agent to locate
and use policies in the Service Location Package. For example, the Distributor
Agent uses the package's ZENworks Database policy to write reporting information
to the database file.
- Handheld Application Search (Handheld Management): Used to limit
how far up the tree Handheld Management will search for Handheld Application
objects.
Distributed Server Package
A Distributed Server Package includes polices that relate to NetWare, Windows
NT*, Windows 2000, Solaris*, or Linux* servers. A Distributed Server Package
contains the following policies:{{{New Midas policies?}}}
- Copy Files (Server Management): Automates file copying. This plural policy can be added several times in the same policy package.
- NetWare SET Parameters (Server Management): Specifies and optimizes selected SET parameters for a server or group of servers. For the NetWare platform only. This plural policy can be added several times in the same policy package.
- Scheduled Down (Server Management): Schedules when a server should go down, and whether it should automatically be brought back up. The policy includes which command (RESET, RESTART, or DOWN) to use when bringing down the server. This plural policy can be added several times in the same policy package.
- Scheduled Load/Unload (Server Management): Automates the loading and unloading order of NLMTM and Java* Class processes for the selected servers. However, because many NLM files require user input to unload, unloading them cannot be automated. This plural policy can be added several times in the same policy package.
- Server Down Process (Server Management): Controls the processes to follow when downing a server.
- Server Scripts (Server Management): Automates script usage on your servers. This plural policy can be added several times in the same policy package.
- SMTP Host: Sets the TCP/IP address of the relay host that processes outbound Internet e-mail. This policy must be enabled if you select the E-Mail option for notifying or logging messages in any of the other policies.
- SNMP Community Strings (Server Management): Allows you to receive and respond to SNMP requests.
- SNMP Trap Targets (Server Management): Sets SNMP trap targets for associated eDirectory objects. You can also schedule when SNMP trap targets are to be refreshed.
- Text File Changes (Server Management): Automates changes to text files. This plural policy can be added several times in the same policy package.
- ZENworks Database (Server Management): Sets the DN for locating a ZENworks Database object. This policy must be in effect for the Policy/Package Agent to locate a database file for logging successes and failures that are used in creating reports. If a database object is not identified with this location policy, Server Management will not use the corresponding database file to log reporting information. Therefore, you should create this policy for each database object in the tree where the Policy/Package Agent will write information. This policy can point to the same database object as the similar policy contained in the Service Location Package, which the Distributor Agent uses for logging information.
- Server Management{{{New name here?}}}: Configures basic parameters for Server Management, such as status logging, defining the server console prompt for the Server Management agent, setting its working path, and setting a database purging limit. This policy can be enabled on each server where you want to enforce Server policies. If you do not enable the policy, Server Management will work from preprogrammed defaults. However, we recommend that you enable this policy because you can specify how information is purged from the database. The database grows with every Server Management success or failure logged. This control will prevent the database file from becoming excessively large.
Handheld Package and Handheld User Package
A Handheld Package and a Handheld User Package contain the following policies
(both packages contain identical policies except where indicated):
- Palm Client Configuration (Handheld Package): Lets you enable user
authentication on associated Palm* OS* devices.
- Palm Configuration: Lets you set general preferences, such as auto-off,
system sound, and beam retrieve settings; associate different software programs
with the buttons on the Palm OS device; assign a feature users can access
when they drag the pen from the writing area to the top of the screen on the
Palm OS device; and specify which software programs are allowed or not allowed
on Palm OS devices.
- Palm File Retrieval: Lets you specify source files you want to retrieve
from associated Palm OS devices and then copy to a specified destination location.
This is a plural policy, meaning it can be added many times to the policy
package. This policy must be added using the Add button.
- Palm Security: Lets you ensure that a password is set on the associated
Palm OS device and lets you configure Auto Lock Configuration and enhanced
password protection. Auto Lock Configuration is only available for Palm OS
devices running Palm OS 4.x or newer. Also lets you specify self-destruct
settings to disable a Palm device after a specified number of failed password
attempts or after a specified number of days since the device was last synchronized.
- WinCE Client Configuration (Handheld Package): Lets you enable user
authentication on associated Windows* CE devices.
- WinCE Configuration: Lets you associate different software programs
or functions with the buttons on the Windows CE device; specify which programs
you want to include on the Start menu (on a Pocket PC) or on the desktop (on
a handheld PC); and specify power settings for Windows CE devices.
- WinCE File Retrieval: Lets you specify source files you want to retrieve
from associated Windows CE devices and then copy to a specified destination
location. This is a plural policy, meaning it can be added many times to the
policy package. This policy must be added using the Add button.
- WinCE Security: Lets you ensure that a password is set on each associated
Windows CE device. Also lets you set advanced password options for Pocket
PCs. For Pocket PCs, ZENworks Handheld Management can replace the Windows
CE password applet; users will see ZENworks Handheld Management password dialog
boxes rather than the default Windows CE dialog boxes. This option also lets
you specify self-destruct settings to disable a Windows CE device after a
specified number of failed password attempts or after a specified number of
days since the device was last synchronized.
- BlackBerry Client Configuration (Handheld Package): Lets you enable
user authentication on associated BlackBerry* devices.
- BlackBerry Configuration: Lets you set configuration information
for associated BlackBerry devices, including the owner name for the device
and any additional information you want to include.
- BlackBerry Inventory: Lets you enable the collection of hardware
and software inventory from associated BlackBerry devices.
- BlackBerry Security: Lets you ensure that a password is set on associated
BlackBerry devices.
Handheld Service Package
A Handheld Service Package includes only one policy: Handheld Import. The Handheld
Import policy lets you enable importing of BlackBerry, Palm OS, and Windows
CE devices into the eDirectory tree.
Server Package
A Server Package includes polices that relate to NetWare® and Windows* servers.
Server Management does not use the Server Package. All Server Management policies
that would normally be listed here are listed under the Distributed Server Package
heading.
Handheld Management does not use the Server Package.
A Server Package contains the following policies for Desktop Management:
- Imaging Server (Desktop Management): Determines rules for imaging workstations.
- Server Inventory (Desktop Management): Determines rules for collecting software and hardware inventory.
- Workstation Import (Desktop Management): Enables automatic creation of Workstation objects as users log into the network.
- Workstation Removal (Desktop Management): Enables automatic removal of unused Workstation objects.
- RollUp (Desktop Management): Determines how scan information is rolled up to the next higher level server.
- Wake on LAN (Desktop Management): Associates the Wake on LAN policy with eDirectory objects that must be remotely waked up.
Service Location Package
A Service Location Package includes polices that relate to services. Handheld
Management does not use the Service Location Package. A Service Location Package
contains the following policies:
- SMTP Host (Server Management and Desktop Management): Sets the
TCP/IP address of the relay host that processes outbound Internet e-mail.
This policy must be enabled if you select the E-mail option for notifying
or logging messages in any of the other policies.
- SNMP Trap Targets (Server Management and Desktop Management): Sets SNMP trap targets for associated eDirectory objects. You can also schedule when SNMP trap targets are to be refreshed.
- Tiered Electronic Distribution (Server Management only): Provides defaults for Tiered Electronic Distribution (TED) objects.
- zenlocXMLTarget (Desktop Management): Specifies the location that XML data will be sent.
- ZENworks Database (Server Management and Desktop Management): Sets
the DN for locating a ZENworks Database object. This policy must be in effect
for Desktop Management or the Server Management Distributor Agent to locate
a database file for logging successes and failures that are used in creating
reports. If a database object is not identified with this location policy,
Desktop Management or the Server Management Distributor Agent will not use
the corresponding database file to log reporting information. Therefore, you
should create this policy for each database object in the tree. For the Distributor
Agent, this policy can point to the same database object as the similar policy
contained in the Distributed Server Package, which the Policy/Package Agent
uses for logging information.{{{New database policy
names? Database objects have new names!}}}
- ZENworks for Servers License (ZENworks for Servers 2 only): Identifies the NLS object for ZENworks for Servers 2. Without this policy in effect, ZENworks for Servers 2 Policy and Distribution Services will not work{{{No longer in eDir?}}}
In Server Management, policies are Distributed and Distributors do not receive Distributions. Therefore, only the Distributor uses the policies in the Service Location Package.
User Package
A User Package includes policies that relate to users. A User Package contains the following policies:
- 95 User System Polices (Desktop Management): Not used in ZENworks for Desktops 3 or above. User system policies are now defined through the User extensible policies. User system policies created in ZENworks for Desktops versions prior to version 3 will still work; however, you can't create new ones or edit existing ones.
- Dynamic Local User (Desktop Management): Configures users created on Windows NT/2000/XP workstations after they have authenticated to eDirectory.
- NT User System Policies (Desktop Management): Not used in ZENworks for Desktops 3 or above. User system policies are now defined through the User extensible policies. User system policies created in ZENworks for Desktops versions prior to version 3 will still work; however, you can't create new ones or edit existing ones.
- Novell iPrinter Policy (Desktop Management): Use to install the Novell iPrint client to users' workstations. After it is installed, users can access iPrint printers via a Web browser just like any other printer, regardless of the printer's physical location.
- Remote Control Policy (Desktop Management): Sets parameters for managing remote user functions, such as whether to prompt users for permission to remotely control their workstations.
- Scheduled Action (Desktop Management): Sets up schedules for specific actions. This is a plural policy, meaning it can be added many times to the policy package. This policy must be added using the Add button.
- User Extensible Policies (Desktop Management): Allows you to control any application function that is configured in the Windows registry. Extensible policies are user-defined.
- Windows Desktop Preferences (Desktop Management): Sets defaults for users' desktops.
- Windows Group Policy (Desktop Management): Acts as an extension of extensible policies for Windows 2000/XP and Active Directory*.
- Windows Terminal Server Policy (Desktop Management): Sets parameters for Citrix* and Microsoft* Terminal Server users.
Workstation Package
A Workstation Package includes policies that relate to workstations. A Workstation Package contains the following policies:
- 95 Computer System Policies (Desktop Management): Not used in ZENworks for Desktops 3 or above. Computer system policies are now defined through the Computer extensible policies. Computer system policies created in ZENworks for Desktops versions prior to version 3 will still work; however, you can't create new ones or edit existing ones.
- Computer Extensible Policies (Desktop Management): Sets user-defined policies (from .ADM files) for workstation objects.
- Novell iPrinter Policy (Desktop Management): Use to install the Novell iPrint client to users' workstations. After it is installed, users can access iPrint printers via a Web browser just like any other printer, regardless of the printer's physical location.
- NT Computer System Policies (Desktop Management): Not used in ZENworks for Desktops 3 or above. Computer system policies are now defined through the Computer extensible policies. Computer system policies created in ZENworks for Desktops versions prior to version 3 will still work; however, you can't create new ones or edit existing ones.
- Remote Control (Desktop Management): Sets parameters for managing remote user functions, such as whether to prompt users for permission to remotely control their workstations.
- Scheduled Action (Desktop Management): Sets up schedules for specific actions. This is a plural policy, meaning it can be added many times to the policy package. This policy must be added using the Add button.
- Windows Group (Desktop Management): Acts as an extension of extensible policies for Windows 2000/XP and Active Directory.
- Workstation Imaging (Desktop Management): Sets the parameters for imaging workstations. Because the Imaging policy is applied before the operating system starts, you must configure this policy using the General page. Do not use the WinNT-2000 or Win95-98 pages.
- Workstation Inventory (Desktop Management): Sets what hardware and software inventory data you want to view for each workstation. It also identifies an Inventory server for each workstation in the network.
- Desktop Management Agent:{{{New name used?}}} The Desktop Management policy lets you use Desktop Management without using the Novell ClientTM.
