HWRules

This page allows you perform the following tasks:

To configure the HWRules ini file:

  1. Click Set Defaults.

    The default values are displayed in the Configuration Editor box.

  2. Add or modify the entries.

    The format of HWRules is as follows:

    [MONITOR_SIZE_RANGE]
    minimum_viewable_size_you_specify : maximum_viewable_size_you_specify = nominal_size_you_specify

    [MONITOR_NOMINAL_SIZE]
    model_ID_reported_by_scanner = nominal_size_you_specify

    In the [MONITOR_SIZE_RANGE] section, specify the minimum and maximum range of the viewable size, and the corresponding nominal size of the monitor.

    In the [MONITOR_NOMINAL_SIZE] section, specify the model ID and its corresponding nominal size as reported by the Inventory scanner. This information will be available in the Inventory Summary dialog box in Hardware/Software Inventory > Hardware > Monitor attribute.

    For example, the contents of the HWRules ini file are as follows:

    [MONITOR_SIZE_RANGE]
    10.0:12.0=12.0
    13.2:13.7=14.0

    [MONITOR_NOMINAL_SIZE]
    IBM1990=17.0
    PHL080B=15.0

    The Inventory scanner will scan for the model ID of the monitor and report the nominal size configured in the [MONITOR_NOMINAL_SIZE] section of the HWRules ini file.

    If the scanned model ID is not listed in [MONITOR_NOMINAL_SIZE], then the scanner will scan the viewable size of the monitors. On the basis the viewable size, the scanner will report the nominal size configured in the [MONITOR_SIZE_RANGE] section of the HWRules ini file.

  3. Click OK to save the contents to the Inventory policy.

To import the contents of an existing ini file to the Configuration editor:

  1. Ensure that the contents of the file that you want import are in following format:

    [MONITOR_SIZE_RANGE]
    minimum_viewable_size_you_specify : maximum_viewable_size_you_specify = nominal_size_you_specify

    [MONITOR_NOMINAL_SIZE]
    model_ID_reported_by_scanner = nominal_size_you_specify

  2. Click Import.
  3. In the Open dialog box, browse to select the file, then click Open.

To export the contents displayed in the Configuration Editor to a text file:

  1. Click Export.
  2. In the Open dialog box, specify the filename, then click Open.
