Defined Variables

For the Variables tab in the Subscriber properties, you can assign variables to be used by the current Subscriber.

For the Variables tab in the Tiered Electronic Distribution policy properties, you can assign default variables to be used by Tiered Electronic Distribution Subscriber objects.

Include Policy
Select to use the effective policy if you want to use the values set in the Tiered Electronic Distribution policy. This field is displayed if a Tiered Electronic Distribution policy has been created, distributed to the Subscriber server, extracted by the Policy/Package Agent, and enforced on the server.

If you select this option, the variables specified in the Tiered Electronic Distribution policy are added to the list of variables. However, if there are duplicate variables, the variables in the Subscriber prevail.

Variable
Specify the variable's name. It should indicate how the variable is used. For example, WORKINGVOL. The name can be derived from the following variable types:

Predefined
User-defined
Native environment
Java* environment

Value
This is the value that the Subscriber uses when the variable is specified.

Variables allow you to use a similar path for dissimilar platforms by specifying a variable for the part of the path that is different for each platform.

For example, the following table displays possible values for a user-defined variable named Root_Location:

Platform Possible Variable Values
NetWare® sys:\
data:\
Windows* 2000 and Windows Server 2003 C:\
C$

The value can also be another variable name. You can nest variables by using variable names as values.

Description
Describe how the variable is used. For example:

Volume for the working directory.

Add
Adds a new variable for the Subscriber.

Edit
Allows you to edit the variable's value and description.

Delete
Removes the variable from the list for this Subscriber.
