You can assign default variables to be used by Tiered Electronic Distribution objects. Variables defined in a Subscriber object's propeties override any variables set in this policy.
Variable
Specify the variable's name. The name can be derived from the following variable types:
Predefined
User-defined
Native environment
Java* environment
Value
Specify a valid value that you want this variable to resolve to.
Variables allow you to use a similar path for dissimilar platforms by specifying a variable for the part of the path that is different for each platform.
For example, the following table displays possible values for a user-defined variable named Root_Location:
| Platform | Possible Variable Values |
| NetWare® | sys:\ data:\ |
| Windows* 2000 and Windows Server 2003 | C:\ C$ |
The value can also be another variable name. You can nest variables by using variable names as values. For example:
C:\%TEMP%
where %TEMP% is another variable that's providing more path information for the Root_Location variable.
Description
Describe how the variable is to be used. For example:
Volume for the working directory.
A trademark symbol (®, TM, etc.) denotes a Novell trademark. An asterisk denotes a third-party trademark. For more information, see Legal Notices.
