Gateway Alias Migration

Use the Gateway Alias Migration dialog box to convert the GroupWise® SMTP gateway aliases listed on the Gateway Aliases property page of each User object into preferred e-mail IDs and Internet domain names on the Internet Addressing property page of each User object.

Before running the Gateway Alias Migration utility, you should validate the domain database (Tools menu > GroupWise Utilities > System Maintenance > Validate) to clean up any orphaned aliases that might exist. You should also create a current backup of the domain database before performing the migration. The migration runs most efficiently if you are connected to the domain where the gateway aliases exist.

Gateway Aliases for Objects In
Displays the post office, domain, or GroupWise system that you selected before starting the Gateway Alias Migration utility.

In a large GroupWise system, a staged migration of gateway aliases is recommended. You might want to start by running the Gateway Alias Migration utility on a post office to assess how many gateway aliases are in the post office and how long the migration takes. This information can help you plan the alias migration for the rest of your GroupWise system.

Gateway Alias Type
Select the gateway alias type that you want to migrate.

Gateway alias types are defined in the Gateway Alias Type field on the Identification property page of each Internet Agent object. If the resulting list is lengthy, click Stop to work with a subset of the list.

Gateway Aliases
Lists all gateway aliases of the selected alias type that are located in the selected GroupWise object (post office, domain, or GroupWise system). Select one or more aliases to migrate, or click Select All.

Migrate
Click Migrate to start the alias migration process. You are prompted for how to handle each alias.

During the migration process, you can skip gateway aliases that you decide not to migrate. You can also click Yes to All to apply your selections for the current gateway alias to all subsequent gateway aliases.

The Gateway Alias Migration utility creates a log file in the domain directory. The file is named mmddgwam.xxx, where mm and dd are the month and day on which the log file is created, and xxx is an incrementing extension to accommodate multiple log files on the same day.
