Domain Directory

You use ConsoleOne® with the GroupWise® Administrator snap-in to create, manage, and store all GroupWise objects and information in Novell® eDirectoryTM. However, the domain also requires a directory to hold the domain database and various subdirectories used in message processing.

Specify the path to the directory you want to use as the domain directory. On NetWare® and Windows*, the directory name can be up to eight characters long. On Linux*, long directory names can be used. On Linux, all characters in the directory name must be lowercase. On NetWare and Windows, uppercase and lowercase characters can be used, but the directory name is not case sensitive.

The directory you specify should be empty. If you browse for an existing directory that is not empty, append a directory name to the path after you have selected it. If the directory does not exist, the System Setup utility creates the directory.

Users do not require access to the domain directory. For this reason, you should create it on a secure volume or directory.

Choose the directory name and path carefully. After it is created, it is difficult to rename. You might want to give the directory a name that is similar to the domain name. For example, if the domain name is Headquarters, you could use headq as the domain directory name.
