Primary Domain
A domain serves two main purposes:
- It functions as the main administration unit for the GroupWise®
system. When you add GroupWise information such as post offices and users
through ConsoleOne®, the information is stored
in Novell® eDirectoryTM and the GroupWise domain
database. From the domain database it is distributed to each post office database.
Users then get their information, such as user addresses, from the post office
database.
- In a GroupWise system with multiple post offices, it organizes the post
offices into a logical grouping for administration, addressing, and routing
purposes.
The first domain you create is called the primary domain, and is used to
coordinate replication of information throughout your GroupWise system.
All other domains you create within your system are called secondary
domains.
The domain name can consist of one or more words, as in the following
examples:
- Corp
- Headquarters
- Quality_Assurance
- Human_Resources
Name your domain carefully. After it is created, it cannot be renamed. Do
not use invalid characters.
