Post Office Settings

Use the Post Office Settings page to configure GroupWise® functionality related to the post office.

Software Distribution Directory
A software distribution directory was specified during installation. Other software distribution directories may have also been created. Select the directory you want to use for this post office.

Access Mode
Select a post office access mode. The GroupWise 6.x and later clients always communicate with the post office in client/server mode. However, older GroupWise clients can still run against a 6.x and later post office in direct mode.

Client/Server Only
If all GroupWise client users can run TCP/IP, and you do not want to grant rights to the post office directory for older GroupWise clients, select Client/Server Only.
Client/Server and Direct
If some users can run TCP/IP, but others cannot, and you are supporting older GroupWise clients, select the Client/Server and Direct option.
Direct Only
If you do not want users on the post office to use TCP/IP, select the Direct Only access mode. This setting will apply only when all users in the post office are using older GroupWise clients.

Delivery Mode
Select a post office delivery mode if the post office Access Mode setting includes direct access.

Use App Thresholds
This is the standard delivery mode and makes best use of network resources in the post office.
Client Delivers Locally
Requires the GroupWise client to deliver message to users in the local post office.

Max Age for Address Book Updates
Specify the maximum number of days you want to store the incremental update records that are used to update Remote client users' Address Books so that they are synchronized with the GroupWise Address Book. The default is 15 days. The maximum number of days is 90. The longer the incremental update records are stored, the larger the post office database becomes, which can impact available disk space and backup time.

Disable Live Move
Select Disable Live Move to turn off the improved Move User capabilities available in GroupWise 6.x or later.

A live move uses a TCP/IP connection to move a user from one post office to another. In general, it is significantly faster and more reliable than earlier Move User capabilities. However, it does require that both post offices are running GroupWise 6.x or later and that TCP/IP is functioning efficiently between the two post offices.

The original Move User capability is required if you are moving a user to a post office that has not yet been upgraded to GroupWise 6.x or later, or if you are moving a user across a WAN link where TCP/IP may not be efficient. The original Move User capability uses the transfer of message files rather than a TCP/IP link.

Restore Area
Displays the directory in your GroupWise system that has been designated as the restore area for this post office. If a restore area has not yet been set up, use Tools > GroupWise System Operations > Restore Area Management to create a restore area. A restore are is used to provide a backup copy of the post office, from which users can restore messages that have already been purged from your active GroupWise system.

Default Archive Service Trusted Application
Select Override to select a different archive service than the system default selected under Tools > GroupWise System Operations > System Preferences > Archive Service Settings.

Remote File Server Settings
Use the remote file server settings to provide POA access to a remote server where the post office databases, a library, or a document storage area is located.

Remote User Name
Specify the network user ID for the POAs to use when accessing the remote server.
Remote Password
Specify the password associated with the user name provided above.
