Addressing rules are text-replacement rules that GroupWise® applies to a message's addresses when the message is sent. Each addressing rule you define causes GroupWise to search for text in an address and replace it with alternate text.
Most addressing rules are used in conjunction with GroupWise gateways to simplify addressing syntax for users. For specific details of how addressing rules apply to your gateways, see your GroupWise gateway documentation. Gateway documentation is available on the Web at the GroupWise Online Documentation site.
Addressing Rules
The Addressing Rules list displays the rules that have been created for your
GroupWise system. A check mark in front of a rule indicates that the rule has
been enabled for your system, which means that it is available for use in each
domain. However, because you might not want all enabled rules to apply to all
domains, you must also enable the rule at the domain level (Domain object >
GroupWise tab > Addressing Rules page) before it will be applied to messages
sent from the domain's users.
The order of the rules in the list also determines the order in which they are applied to a message's address. This means that the first enabled rule in the list is applied first. If it changes the text of the address, no more rules are applied. However, if it does not change the address text, the second enabled rule is applied, then the third, and so on until the text has been changed or all the rules have been applied.
