By default, GroupWise® user addresses consist of three elements: domain, post office, and user ID. The Internet Addressing settings let you enable and configure Internet-style addresses, which consist of your Internet domain name (for example, jpeterson@novell.com or peterson.john@novell.com) and users' GroupWise addresses.
To enable Internet-style addresses, you define at least one Internet domain name. You can then select a preferred Internet domain name for all addresses in your GroupWise system and select an Internet Agent as the default for outbound messages. Although these settings become the defaults for your GroupWise system, each Domain, Post Office, User, and Resource object has an Internet Addressing properties page you can use to override the system settings for that object.
Enabling Internet-style addressing provides the following benefits:
Changing your current GroupWise-style addressing to Internet-style addressing (or vice-versa by deleting an Internet domain name) might invalidate addresses stored in the following locations: 1) other address books, such as the Frequent Contacts address book, 2) existing messages, making replies to the messages undeliverable, 3) external systems, such as list servers, and 4) published or printed addresses, such as business cards.
Internet Domain Names
Currently defined Internet domain names are displayed in the list. The one that
is checked is the current preferred name.
Create
Click Create to enter a new Internet domain name. Any domain name you create needs to be registered in DNS. You must select the default Internet Agent before you can create an Internet domain name.
Edit
Select an Internet domain name on the list, then click Edit to make changes.
Delete
Select an Internet domain name on the list, then click Delete to remove it from your GroupWise system.
Set Preferred
The preferred Internet domain name is used in addresses published in the GroupWise Address Book and in the To field of sent messages. Select a domain name, then click Set Preferred to set a default Internet domain name for your GroupWise system. This can be overridden on the Internet Addressing properties pages for domains, post offices, users, and resources.
Internet Agent for Outbound SMTP/MIME Messages
If you have installed more than one Internet Agent, you can force the outgoing
route by selecting a default Internet Agent from those you have installed. The
default Internet Agent delivers all messages sent to external users; messages
sent to users within your GroupWise system, even though they have an Internet-style
address, are still delivered by the Message Transfer Agent.
