Novell RConsoleJ

Use the Novell® RConsoleJ connection window to establish a secure or an unsecure connection with the remote NetWare® server.

Connection Options

Secure IP
Establishes a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) based IP connection with the target NetWare server. This connection ensures server authentication.

The Secure option works with RConsoleJ client version 6.00.00(0000) and RConsoleJ agent version 6.00.02 or later.

Unsecure IP
Establishes a TCP/IP connection with the target NetWare server. This option is provided for backward compatibility with NetWare 5.x and it also works on NetWare 6.x.

The Unsecure IP connection has two options: Connect Directly and Connect via Proxy.

Connect Directly
Connects to a server using the server's IP address or DNS name. Use this option when both client and server are IP.

Connect via Proxy
Connects to a server through the RConsoleJ Proxy Agent (rconprxy.nlm). Use this option when the server is IPXTM only.

Note: The server that loads the RConsoleJ Proxy Agent should be IP/IPX.

Remote Server

Server
If the target server communicates using IP, enter the target server's IP address or DNS name.
If it communicates using IPX, enter the server's IPX address and IPX number, separated by a colon.

To connect to an IPX server, you must have a NetWare server (with both IP and IPX stacks) running the RConsoleJ Proxy Agent.

Remote Servers
Click the Remote Servers icon to view a list of Secure or Unsecure IP services provided by the RConsoleJ Agent. The servers displayed vary based on the Connection option selected.

Password
Enter the RConsoleJ Agent password that was specified during loading the RConsoleJ Agent (rconag6.nlm) on the NetWare server.

Port No
Depending on the Connection option selected, use the default port number for the services provided by RConsoleJ Agent:

-For RConsoleJ Unsecure service, 2034 is the default port number.
-For RConsoleJ Secure service, 2036 is the default port number.
-For RConsoleJ IPX connection, 16800 is the default port number.

You can modify these values depending on the port number used by these services during RConsoleJ Agent loading.

Proxy Server

Server
Enter the proxy server's IP address or its DNS name.

Proxy Servers
Click the Proxy Servers icon to view the list of NetWare servers that are loaded with rconprxy.nlm

Port No
Enter the port number used by the NetWare server loaded with RConsoleJ Proxy Agent. The default port number is 2035.

Agent Protocol
Select a protocol to communicate with the target server. If the target server uses only IP, select TCP. If it uses only IPX, select SPXTM. If the server protocol is unknown, select Any to connect automatically.

Connect
Connects to the target server.

Exit
Terminates the remote console session.

Status
Displays error messages.
