Legacy System Requirements

The legacy system requirements let you manage system requirements in a mixed environment consisting of ZENworks 6.5 (or later) versions of Novell^® Application Launcher^TM and pre-ZENworks 6.5 Application Launcher versions.

The legacy system requirements work in conjunction with the distribution rules. Whether Application Launcher uses the distribution rules or the legacy system requirements depends on its version:

• Pre-ZENworks 6.5 versions: Pre-ZENworks 6.5 versions of Application Launcher can read only the legacy system requirements. They cannot read the distribution rules. You must define legacy system requirements to support pre-ZENworks 6.5 versions.
• ZENworks 6.5 (or later) versions: ZENworks 6.5 (or later) versions of Application Launcher can read both the distribution rules and legacy system requirements. Application Launcher first looks for distribution rules. If any distribution rules are defined, it uses them. If no distribution rules are defined, Application Launcher checks for legacy system requirements.

Add System Requirement to Control Availability of This Application
This list displays all the requirements associated with the distribution or launch of the application. Requirements are defined and added to the list by using the Add button located below the list. For each requirement, the following information is displayed:

Show
This column indicates if the Application object's icon is displayed on the workstation regardless of whether or not the requirement is met. A True setting indicates that the icon is always displayed; if the requirement is not met, the icon displays in a disabled state. A False setting indicates that the icon is displayed only if the workstation meets the requirement.

If an icon is displayed in a disabled state, users can right-click the icon, select Details, then select Requirements in order to view a list of all of the distribution requirements that were defined for the application. They can then perform any necessary upgrades to the workstation configuration to meet the application requirements.

Type
You can define different types of requirements, such as operating system requirements, memory requirements, and disk space requirements. This column shows the requirement's type. The types are explained under Add below.

Subject
This column shows the subject of the system requirement. For example, if the type is OS Version, the subject could be Windows* 98 or Windows NT*/2000/XP.

Operator
This column shows if a condition (greater than, less than, equal to, etc.) must be met for the assigned value.

Value
This column shows if a value is associated with the subject. For example, if Windows NT/2000/XP is the subject, the version might need to be greater than or equal to 4.00.950 in order for the application to be distributed.

File
This option lets you search for requirements in the list and import requirements from another Application object's .aot or .axt file.

• Find: Click File > Find to search for requirements that include certain information. For example, you could search for requirements that include "Windows," ">=," or "system memory."
• Find Next: Click File > Find Next to find the next occurrence of the requirement.
• Import: Click File > Import to import requirements from another Application object's .aot or .axt file.

Add
Click Add, then select one of the following requirement types:

• Applications: Lets you require a specific application to be present or not be present on the workstation. The application must have been distributed through an Application object.
• Remote Access: Lets you require that Application Launcher be running in a specific mode, either remote mode or local (LAN) mode.
• Terminal Server: Lets you require the computer to be (or not be) a terminal server.
• Client: Lets you require the workstation to be running (or not running) the Novell Client^TM.
  
• Disk Space: Lets you require a specific amount of free disk space on the workstation.
  
• Environment Variables: Lets you require specific environment variables to be present or not present.
  
• Memory: Lets you require a specific amount of memory on the workstation.
• Operating System: Lets you require a specific operating system.
• Processor: Lets you require a specific processor type.
• Registry: Lets you require specific registry values to be present or not present.
• File Existence: Lets you require a file to be present or not present.
• File Version: Lets you require a file to be a specific version.
• File Date: Lets you require a file to be a specific date.
• File Size: Lets you require a file to be a specific size.

Modify
Select a requirement in the list, then click Modify to edit the information.

Delete
Select a requirement in the list, then click Delete to remove the requirement.
