Launcher Configuration

This property page lets you view and configure the Novell^® Application Launcher^TM settings that are applied to the workstation. Configuration settings determine how Application Launcher works and the functionality that Application Launcher exposes on the workstation.

Each configuration option has a default setting that is inherited from the parent container. You can override the default setting by establishing a custom setting. When Application Launcher searches the Novell eDirectory^TM tree for a workstation's Application Launcher settings, it starts with the workstation's object and works up the eDirectory tree. Application Launcher continues up the tree searching for custom settings until it reaches a container object that has been designated as the top of the tree. If it finds custom settings in the workstation's object or any container objects along the way, those settings are applied. If it doesn't find any custom settings, then the setting is considered "unset" and the default setting is applied. If it finds more than one custom setting for the same option, the lowest-level setting applies.

For example, if a custom setting is applied to both a workstation's object and the workstation's container object, the setting for the workstation's object is used.

Mode
Select the configuration mode you want:

View/Edit Object's Custom Configuration
Select this option to view the custom Application Launcher configuration settings for the workstation. Custom configuration settings are settings that have been changed specifically for this workstation; the custom settings override any configuration settings inherited from the parent container.

Any settings that have been customized are displayed in the list. You can add a new custom configuration setting to the list, edit an existing setting, delete a setting, or clear all of the settings:

• Add: Use the Add button to add a new custom setting to the list. To do so, click Add to display the Launcher Configuration dialog box. Select the settings you want to customize and provide the correct information, then click OK to add the customized settings to the list. For information about a setting, click the Help button while in the Launcher Configuration dialog box.
• Edit: Use the Edit button to modify a setting you've previously customized. To do so, select the setting, then click Edit to display the Launcher Configuration dialog box. Modify the setting's information, then click OK to save the changes. For information about a setting, click the Help button while in the Launcher Configuration dialog box.
• Delete: Use the Delete button to remove a custom setting from the list. After the custom setting is deleted, the container inherit the setting from its parent container.
• Clear All: Use the Clear All button to remove all the custom settings from the list. After the custom settings are deleted, the container inherits all settings from its parent container.

View Object's Effective Settings
Select this option to view all the settings for the workstation. This includes the custom settings you have configured (using the View/Edit Object's Custom Configuration mode) as well as the settings inherited from parent containers.

View Configuration Tree
Select this option to view the custom settings in an eDirectory tree view. This enables you to identify the object (self, parent container) from which the workstation is inheriting custom settings.

Use as Top of Configuration Tree
Check this option if you want designate the Workstation object as the top of the configuration tree. This affects the following:

• The workstation's object becomes the the top-level object from which the workstation inherits Application Launcher configuration settings. In this case, Application Launcher reads only the Workstation object to determine the configuration settings.
• The workstation's object becomes the top-level object that is displayed when you select the View Object's Effective Settings mode.
