Windows 2000 Group Policies

You can specify and edit group policies for Windows* 2000 workstations.

There is some cross-over in policy settings between Windows 2000 group policies and ZENworks® for Desktops (ZfD) Extensible Policies, such as under User Configuration > Administrative Templates.

Note that the Internet Explorer Maintenance policy settings are not used.

The Windows settings (for Security and Administrative Templates) are stored on the NetWare® server.

Network Location of Existing/New Group Policies
Enter or browse for the location of the Windows 2000 group policies.

WARNING: Make sure you have selected the correct directory path in this field because you could destroy data when you exit the Microsoft* Management Console (MMC) editor. All of the files in the selected directory and any of its subdirectories will be deleted before the Active Directory* group policy that you edited is copied back to it.

If you accidentally select a directory that does not contain a group policy, MMC will display your server's default settings and save those settings into the selected directory when you exit MMC.

Group Policies Remain in Effect on User Logout
Check this box to indicate that the pushed group policies will remain in effect on the local Windows 2000 desktop after the user logs out.

Edit Policies
If you are running on a Windows 2000 workstation, the MMC editor is accessed using the Group Policy snap-in.

If you are editing a User Package policy, make changes only to the User Configuration section. If you are editing a Workstation Package policy, make changes only to the Computer Configuration section.

To save any changes you make in MMC, click the Close button (X). The menus do not provide an Exit option.

WARNING: Even if no changes are subsequently made, clicking this button timestamps Directory Services, pushes the policy the next time it runs, and sends additional packets on the wire.

Import Active Directory Folder
Click this button to browse to the the folder where the Active Directory group policy (the policy you want to import to Novell® eDirectoryTM) resides. You can then copy the Active Directory group policy to the directory specified in the Network Location of Existing/New Group Policies field.

If the specified directory does not exist, it will be automatically created.

WARNING: Make sure you have selected the correct directory path in the Network Location of Existing/New Group Policies field because you could destroy data if you select the wrong directory. All of the files in the selected directory and any of its subdirectories will be deleted before the Active Directory group policy is copied to it.
