Buttons: Configuration

The WinCE Configuration policy lets you associate Windows* CE applications with the buttons on associated Pocket PC devices. It also lets you assign another function to a button. For example, you can assign Start Menu to a button on the Pocket PC device, making it easier for users to access the Start menu.

Pocket PC Button Assignments
Lets you change the applications that are associated with the buttons on associated Pocket PC devices. For example, if your organization has a specific application that users often use, you can associate that application with any button on the device, making it easier for users to access the application.

Button
Lists any buttons that you have changed assignments for. To change a button's assignment, click Add.

Assignment
Lists any applications that are assigned to buttons on the Pocket PC device. If the list is empty, the buttons are associated with the factory default applications. To add an assignment to a button, click Add.

Adding an Assignment to a Button

To add an assignment to a button on the Pocket PC device:

  1. Click Add.
  2. In the Select a Button dialog box, select a button from the list or type the name of button, then click OK.
  3. In the Edit Button Assignment dialog box, select one the following options:

    To view the button naming conventions for your particular handheld device, click Start > Settings > Buttons. For example, on a Compaq* iPAQ* Pocket PC, the buttons are named Button 1, Button 2, and so forth. On an HP* Jornada Pocket PC, the buttons are named Hot key 1, Hot key 2, and so forth.

Changing the Button's Association

  1. Select a button from the Button list.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. In the Edit Button Assignment dialog box, modify the required settings
  4. Click OK.

Deleting the Button's Association

  1. Select a button from the Button list.
  2. Click Delete.

    This deletes the association for the selected button and resets its association to its factory default value.
