Programs: Start Menu/Desktop

Use this page to specify which programs you want to include on the Start Menu (on a Pocket PC) or on the desktop (on a handheld PC). The settings on this page will ensure that Windows* CE devices in your organization have a similar configuration, which will help reduce support costs and provide consistency for your handheld devices.

Programs to Include on the Start Menu (PPC)/Desktop (HPC)
Lets you specify programs to include on the Start menu of Pocket PCs and on the desktop of handheld PCs.

Shortcut Name
Lists the programs that you want to include on the Start menu/desktop. To add a program to the list, click Add.

Target
Lists the path to the program's executable file.

You can perform the following tasks in this page:

• Add a program to the Shortcut Name list
• Edit a program's shortcut name
• Delete a program from the Shortcut Name list
• Move all other Start Menu/Desktop items to the Programs folder
• Hide all items in the Programs folder

Adding a Program to the Shortcut Name List

1. Click Add.
2. In the Edit Program dialog box, specify a shortcut name, and complete path of the program on the Windows CE device.

   Note: If you specify a shortcut name that already exists on the device, the new name will replace the old name. For example, if you have an existing program with Calendar as the Shortcut Name and you add another program using Calendar as the Shortcut Name, Calendar will point to the new program.

3. Click OK.

Editing a Program's Shortcut Name or Target

1. From the Shortcut Name list, select the program whose settings you want to modify.
2. Click Edit.
3. In the Edit Program dialog box, modify the required settings.
4. Click OK.

Deleting a Program from the Shortcut Name List

1. From the Shortcut Name list, select the program you want to delete.
2. Click Delete.

Moving All Other Start Menu/Desktop Items to the Programs Folder
Rather than selecting certain programs to be removed from the device's Start menu/desktop, you might find it easier to do the following:

1. Specify a set list of applications
2. Select the "Move All Other Start Menu/Desktop Items to the Programs Folder" option.

When the policy reaches its scheduled run time or when the user synchronizes the device, all programs not listed in the Shortcut Name list will be removed from the device's Start menu/desktop to the Programs folder.

Hiding All Items in the Programs Folder
To hides the name and icon of all programs in the Programs folder:

1. Select the "Hide All Items in the Programs Folder".
